- [edaphic scientific] Sap flow is the movement of fluid in the roots, stems and branches of plants. Sap flow is typically measured in the xylem of plants. More specifically, sap flow is measured in the sapwood portion of xylem, or the conducting wood, which differs to the other portion of xylem known as heartwood.
