Definition
- The measurement of the concentration of all alkaline substances dissolved in the water that can both attract and release Hydrogen ions (H+), including: Bicarbonates (HCO₃⁻), Carbonates (CO₃²⁻), Hydroxides (OH⁻) and other minor alkaline substances (e.g., borates, silicates, phosphates). It is measured by titration with acid until pH ~ 4.5.
